Gregory E. McElroy is a distinguished leader of Zeta Psi Fraternity. He is a member of Phi Chapter at New York University, from which he graduated in 1971.
Following his graduation, McElroy became a Chapter Consultant. One year later in 1972, he was named Executive Director and served until 1996, earning the honor of being the longest serving Executive Director of Zeta Psi. McElroy was the 131st Phi Alpha from 2006 to 2008. He also served as an ex-officio board member for 10 years until January 2020.
McElroy was involved with fostering relations among fraternities and the overall promotion of Greek life. He served on the board of the Fraternity Executives Association and as president from 1985–1986. McElroy first established the 15 South Henry Street International Headquarters in Pearl River, New York.
McElroy additionally had an extremely prosperous career as a professional fundraiser, assisting several Greek organizations with their campaigns. He was a fundraising consultant at Cornell University for seven fraternity capital campaigns, which raised over $14 million, including a $1.5 million goal for Psi Chapter. For Zeta Psi Fraternity, he has been crucial to the success of several gift campaigns and the Zeta Psi Annual Fund, energizing donors and securing millions of dollars in gifts.
In 2011, Gregory E. McElroy was presented with the highest honor of Zeta Psi, the Distinguished Service Award. In 2021, Zeta Psi Fraternity created the Gregory E. McElroy Chapter of the Year Award. At the 2022 Convention, he received the Henry Elliot Volunteer of the Year award. McElroy’s strong leadership has been crucial to the success of Zeta Psi Fraternity in the latter half of the 20th century.
