James John Ljunglin was a member of Pi Chapter at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, from which he graduated in 1957. Following graduation, he had a successful career in chemical engineering. Ljunglin served for two years in the Chemical Corps of the United States Army and was part of a specialty chemicals division of Exxon. Ljunglin also worked in research and manufacturing and ultimately transitioned to investment planning.
Ljunglin has a long history of service to Zeta Psi. He served on the Zeta Psi Executive Board from 1981 to 1998. Ljunglin held the role of Phi Alpha from 1989 to 1991 and was known for his patient and encouraging leadership. Prior to this, he served as Gamma Alpha and Alpha Phi Alpha, in addition to working with the Pi Chapter Elder Board. He was known for his appreciation of the Ritual of Zeta Psi, dedicated to understanding the mystic rituals of Zeta Psi and continuing the traditions.
Ljunglin has been a devoted elder in the life of Pi Chapter at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. For his service, he was awarded the Rensselaer Alumni Association’s Demers Medal in 2000. The Jim Ljunglin Award for Pi Chapter Lifetime Achievement was named in his honor.
In 2016, the James J. Ljunglin Education Center was created to honor his legacy. Located in the Zeta Psi International Headquarters in Pearl River, New York, the Education Center displays significant items that illustrate Zeta Psi history and milestones.
